Joziburg at No. One Eloff Street

Johannesburg’s freshest new venue Joziburg at No. One Eloff Street invites you to visit the visionary new complex for fun, food, film, exhibitions and rooftop parties in the city from the end of July onwards. The eye-catching blue and turquoise block on the corner of downtown Jozi is already home to cool creatives who live in its loft style apartments, now it’s office, retail and entertainment plans are set to be fully realised.

Joziburg, owned by Molten Black, is a neighbourhood of colours, freedom and expression – it aims to become an aspirational living, working, entertainment and shopping community/district by and for the inner city urban dweller.

Whilst enjoying the film, food, exhibitions, talks and parties at Joziburg, be sure to check out the office and shop space available for rent. Bag Alley is an exploration and combination of informal street trader style stores with a platform for entrepreneurs to get to grips with retail in a cost-effective and stimulating atmosphere. Services, brands and merchants can now interact with like-minded individuals in order to realise their vision.

The end of July will see leading Johannesburg cultural curators programming daily events that the public are welcome to attend every night. Sifiso Khanyile’s June 16 documentary Uprize will screen at the first of The Film Noire screenings on Wednesday, 26 JulyThursday, 27July will be the opening night for The Kollektive Pop Up Gallery who will also be hosting a talk the next day. Saturdays in the city will never be the same after Joziburg’s rooftop hosts The Feel Good Sessions on the 29th. Melo B Jones will be live and on the decks, DJs 1D, Bubbles, The DJ,Doda, Bhibo (from Until Until), Scott The Girl, Themba Lunacy as well as  Zanele & Zodwa. On Sunday, the same venue will host the most cutting- edge art and music in Joburg with Joziburg-based, The Bubblegum Club’s New Sound Night. Wednesday, 26 July – Film Noire Screenings

Film Noire’s mission is to bring the power of cinematic storytelling to the people of Johannesburg through monthly screenings hosted at 1 Eloff’s, Joziburg.

The screenings will feature a selection of must-see documentaries and films from African filmmakers as well as classics produced in the country, the continent as well as across the diaspora.

The first screening will feature the recently premiered Uprize by Sifiso Khanyile. The Soweto uprising of 1976 is well documented: students peacefully protested the mandatory inclusion of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction. By nightfall over 200 lay dead. The less well-documented ‘76 protest action by activists in Bonteheuwel, Langa and the Cape Flats, and the student deaths, are the heart of this film. Personal reflections of struggle stalwarts Fatima Dike, Dr Mongane Wally Serote and Duma Ndlovu consider the states’ brutal response, the influence of the Black Consciousness Movement and their disappointment with the current state of the nation. It’s a glimpse into 70s SA, the cost of the fight for education and freedom, and especially relevant 40 years later as university students take on the ANC government demanding free, quality education.
