Bonjour Monsieur Brel

After a successful South African tour JANNIE DU TOIT will present his much loved production, BONJOUR MONSIEUR BREL at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square in Sandton for a season from the 4th – 6th July.

In this production Jacques Brel’s famously imaginative texts are sung in four languagesand accompanied by a musical ensemble of the highest order. JANNIE DU TOIT has for decades been highly regarded as a Brel interpreter and for excellence in vocal art. His first production was in 1988 in the production Van Berlyn Tot Bapsfontein at Club’58 in Hillbrow, co-starring Laurika Rauch. Thereafter, Brel songs were part of his trade mark. Many of his productions featured favourites and from the early nineties, and he became known particularly for his rendition of the song, Madeleine.

Brel’s passionately haunting songs which showcase his unique take on the human condition is the focus of the programme. As in the works of classical composers, hisvisionary writings and music are timeless. Brel’s  brilliance emerges equally in all four languages (French, Dutch, English and Agrikaans) - a testament to his unrivaled gift of expression as one of the greatest chansonnier of the 20th century.

BONJOUR MONSIEUR BREL is a marvelous musical celebration of Brel’s most memorable songs, also featuring well known JPO cellist, SUSAN MOUTON who is no stranger to the Auto & General Theatre on the Square. Susan performs regularly in the theatre’s weekly classical music concerts. Joining the ensemble is talented pianist, CHANIE JONKER.
